furisode
All of our kimonos are vintage, and as such any marks or oddities within the fabric are all part of the garment's story & history.
All photos are photographed to the best of our ability, certain colours may appear different on individual computer screens.
Please do not hesitate to contact us on inquiries@tokyokaleidoscope.com if you wish to make an appointment to see our kimonos and reserve a piece for reconstruction

The Furisode (swinging sleeve) kimono is the most ornate style of kimono besides the wedding kimonos.
Characterized by the long, swinging sleeves and detailed patterns/prints/embroidery; this type of kimono was traditionally worn by young, unmarried Japanese woman especially at their “coming of age” celebrations at 20 years old.
Afterwards, sometimes the sleeves of the Furisode would be shortened so that the kimono could be worn for future, special events. Here you will find examples of past Furisodes, chosen for their beautiful designs & colours - that were chosen to be reconstructed.
Furisodes are a great way to create a spectacular maxi frock/playsuit and/or a range of separates.
*note: this is a sample of past furisode that have already been chosen from the collection to be reconstructed to give you an idea of what has been available. Due to the ever changing nature of our collection & our busy reconstruction schedule, the site will no longer be updated to showcase “current” available kimonos.
There are somewhere between 400-500 kimonos/obis/haoris constantly available in our studio to choose from.
